Joe Krebs, emcee of 2010 Peer Awards ceremonyNews4 Anchor Joe Krebs to Emcee 2010 Peer Awards Ceremony

TIVA is proud to announce that News4 morning anchor, Joe Krebs, will emcee the 2010 Peer Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening, November 13th at the National Press Club.

Joe is a familiar face to early risers who wake up to the highly-rated and award- winning morning program, “News 4 Today.” The program, co-hosted by Eun Yang, airs weekday mornings beginning at 4:30. In addition to these hosting duties, Joe also files special “Cold Case” reports for News4 at 11. For his on-air work, Joe’s received many awards: numerous Emmys, three Dateline Awards, the Maryland Bar Association Gavel Award, the Chesapeake Associated Press Award, and the RTNDA Regional Award for Feature Reporting. He was recently inducted into the Silver Circle of the Washington Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

What you may not know is that Joe has supported his industry behind the scenes, too. In 1997, he ably served as our local President of AFTRA, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, which counts over 3,000 local performers among its membership. He is on the national Board of this union and serves as Chair of the National Broadcast Steering Committee.

But Joe’s work in broadcasting is only part of his story. A graduate of the St. Louis University School of Law, Joe worked as an assistant Prosecuting Attorney for St. Louis County. Clearly, his legal background has shone through in his reports on the trials of John Hinckley, Oliver North, the Walker family spy ring, drug kingpin Rayful Edmond, OJ Simpson, and John and Lorena Bobbitt. Joe’s legal experience has also added depth to his “Cold Case” reports, which bring attention to unsolved murders in the hope of helping investigators discover new leads. After one recent report, police arrested a suspect who was later convicted for murder.

An avid swimmer and cyclist, Joe is possibly the only local TV anchor to have completed the annual 4.4-mile Chesapeake Bay Swim. He also participated in five long-distance bicycle rides to help raise money for AIDS service programs.

Given Joe’s busy (and very early morning) schedule, we’re particularly pleased that he’ll be taking time out to help us recognize the outstanding work that goes on in our production community at this year’s Peer Awards ceremony. We hope you’ll join us, too.

Who We Are

Television, Internet and Video Association of DC (TIVA-DC), a local not-for-profit (501(c)(3)) organization was formed to serve the needs of the growing Washington/Baltimore media production community.  Focused on the burgeoning local market, TIVA offers an entrée into a world of career opportunities, new-industry technology seminars, educational outreach, mentoring and award ceremonies.

Our History

TIVA-DC has deep roots in the Washington/Baltimore media production community. Its membership came from the DC chapter of the natonal organization founded in 1970 as the National Industrial Television Association (NITA), which became the International Television Association (ITVA) in 1978.  In 2001, the national organization (ITVA) changed its name again to the Media Communication Association (MCA-I), but the DC chapter, ITVA-DC, decided against change and kept its name.  In 2007, MCA-I forced ITVA-DC to change its name to MCAI-DC.  At that time, a number of local members created an independent organization, TIVA-DC, in order to assure local control image and management.

Our Mission

The mission of TIVA-DC is to connect the media production community to jobs, resources and educational opportunities in the National Capital region.

The Peer Awards

Recognition of the outstanding work created by area professionals is one of the most celebrated social events each year: The DC Peer Awards.  The event, which is held in October at the National Press Club, is sponsored by TIVA-DC.
